Coffee effects

There are many different reasons why we drink coffee. First and foremost, many of us love the aroma and flavor of coffee. Meeting for a cup of coffee has become an established social ritual, and quite a few business deals have been brokered over a cup of coffee or two. Sometimes, however, we are more interested in the effects of coffee than we are in the coffee itself.

The energy-boosting power of that morning cup is one of the most desired effects of coffee. Many people feel they cannot properly start their day without their morning coffee to help them wake up. The caffeine in coffee blocks adenosine, which is a chemical that makes you feel drowsy. When you introduce caffeine into your body, it overrides adenosine, increasing mental alertness and reaction time, thereby making you feel more awake.

Another wonderful effect of coffee is that it can help post-workout muscle pain. In studies, individuals who consumed at least one cup of coffee an hour before going to the gym experienced a 48% decrease in pain over those who did not have a pre-workout cup of coffee. In addition, the caffeine in coffee has been shown to increase the pain-relieving properties of acetaminophen.

So whether you drink coffee purely for the pleasure, or as a way to wake up in the morning, it is good to know that there are other positive effects to be gained as well.
