Espresso benefits

The term espresso refers to a small shot of pressure-brewed coffee, usually between one to two ounces, which is brewed in approximately 30 seconds. The quick brewing process and the amount of pressure applied by the espresso machine create a drink which is much stronger than traditional brewed coffee. Properly brewed, the espresso shot will be slightly thicker than coffee with a layer of golden cream, known as crema, on the top. There is an art form to making a proper shot of espresso, and the end result is truly wonderful.

Espresso has many of the same health benefits as coffee such as a wealth of antioxidants, reduced risk of many types of cancer, and an increase in alertness. Espresso has also been shown to drastically reduce stress levels. For many coffee lovers, even the smell of espresso can lighten their mood and induce relaxation. Many contribute this to the heady aroma of espresso, which is much stronger and richer than the smell of traditionally brewed coffee.

Espresso originated in Italy, and has been a popular drink there since the early 1900’s. One of the reasons that espresso is thought to have more health benefits than coffee is that is it much more concentrated, delivering a bigger dose of caffeine and antioxidants in one small shot. In addition, espresso is traditionally consumed black, so there are no added calories from milk or cream.

If you are looking for an incredibly rich coffee experience, chock-full of cancer fighting antioxidants and with a boost of caffeine, try a shot of espresso. It represents the ultimate in coffee enjoyment.
