Coffee bean calories

Coffee beans, which are the seeds from the berries found on coffee plants, are roasted and brewed to create different varieties of coffee. The beans contain very few calories, and are full of antioxidants and fiber. An entire pound of coffee beans would contain only about sixty calories and two grams of fat.

When brewed by traditional drip methods, the beans produce coffee which contains approximately two calories in an eight ounce serving. The fat content of the bean is dissolved during the roasting process, and does not end up in the final product.

Prior to roasting, coffee beans generally bright red in appearance. Once the outer layer is removed, they are washed, dried and then roasted. The longer the bean is roasted, the darker the coffee is. Dark roasted coffee beans do not contain any more calories than lightly roasted beans. The nutritional content of the bean essentially stays the same, regardless of the roasting process.

While coffee beans have very few calories, there are some ways in which calories can be added. Many people enjoy eating chocolate covered coffee beans, which are much higher in calories as well as containing saturated fat. All of this extra caloric content is a result of the added chocolate.

Flavored coffees are very popular these days, and many people wonder if flavored coffee beans have more calories than unflavored beans. The flavor is usually a compound of natural and synthetic flavors, and does not change the amount of calories.
