Thermal coffee makers
These days, consumers have numerous choices to make when it comes time to purchase a coffee maker. In addition to making choices about brands and styles, many coffee makers also offer the option of a thermal carafe instead of the traditional glass carafe.
A thermal coffee maker differs from the traditional glass carafe coffee maker in that it dispenses coffee directly into a special carafe, usually made of stainless steel, which features a top that can be closed. This allows you to keep coffee warm for an extended period of time without having it sit directly on a heated plate as with a traditional coffee maker. Coffee left exposed to heat for extended periods of time tends to get stronger as well as becoming bitter the longer it sits, which makes a thermal coffee maker a great choice if you tend to make one pot of coffee in the morning and drink it throughout the day. Dispensing the coffee directly into a thermal carafe allows you to keep the coffee warm without affecting the taste.
One disadvantage to a thermal coffee maker is the carafe can be slightly more difficult to clean than a glass carafe. Many of them are not dishwasher-safe, so you would need to follow the manufacturer’s directions with regard to cleaning. In addition, dispensing hot coffee into a cold carafe can cool the coffee down some, but rinsing the carafe with hot water prior to brewing eliminates this problems.
If you want to be able to serve coffee that tastes as great at 11:00 AM as it did at 6:00 AM, a thermal coffee maker may be your best choice.
